In 1958,17-year-old Noel comes to live with his grandparents in their rural Irish village of Faha after his mother dies and he leaves the seminary where he had been studying to become a priest. Also arriving in Faha are a man named Christy, who has come to town in search of a long-lost love, and electricity. Narrated by Noel 60 years after the events of that spring and summer, Williams' ninth novel is a loving portrait of a community and a young man on the brink of change.
