Come celebrate Pride at the Wallingford Public Library! Join us on Friday nights this June for a three-part film series centering LGBTQIA experiences. We will feature the 2018 romantic comedy Love, Simon (PG-13) on June 7, the 2023 documentary Every Body (R) on June 14, and the 2018 Kenyan drama Rafiki (unrated) on June 21. With this series, we wish to showcase stories that bring awareness to the vast history, challenges, triumphs and dreams of those who identify as Queer. Audience members are invited to take part in a short discussion following each film. All are welcome; no registration is required! #Librariesareforeveryone

Rafiki: Kena and Ziki live very different lives in Nairobi. Kena works in her father's shop and awaits the start of nursing school, while Ziki passes the days hanging out with her friends and making up dance routines. Their paths cross when their fathers run against each other for seats in the County Assembly, and they find themselves drawn to each other. Soon their interest grows to affection and the girls find ways to love each other despite the ever-watching gaze of the neighborhood. PLEASE NOTE: This film is not rated. It contains some mild violence and is appropriate for viewers age 13 and up.
