VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON MEETING
Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
Abraham Lincoln's beloved 11-year-old son Willie died in February of 1862. Shortly after he was buried, a distraught Lincoln paid a nighttime visit to the graveyard, which has an unnerving impact on the resident ghosts, who have chosen to hang out in the "Bardo”—a Tibetan term for a middle space in between lives—rather than face final judgment. This haunting, Booker Prize-winning novel focuses both on the spirits’ stubborn, nostalgic attachment to the world of the living and Lincoln’s monumental sorrow.
