Ocean Farming in Connecticut: The Emerging Blue Economy

Join us to celebrate our 142nd year! Festivities will include a brief business meeting, followed by a presentation by Suzie Flores of Stonington Kelp Company about the fascinating business of sustainable ocean farming taking place right here in Connecticut. All are welcome!

Stonington Kelp Company is one of the largest commercial seaweed farms in the state of Connecticut, selling food grade sugar kelp to local restaurants and shops. Owner and operator Suzie Flores is a former market development executive turned kelp farmer. When not farming, Suzie engages in outreach education around the sustainability of seaweed farming and works to support the development of an emerging blue economy in the Northeast. Stonington Kelp Co. has been featured on WNPR’s Seasoned, Forbes, 60 Minutes, and The New York Times.
