We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman
Edi and Ash have been best friends for most of their lives. When Edi’s ovarian cancer progresses to the point that treatment is no longer an option, she decides to go into hospice near Ash’s home in Massachusetts, leaving her husband and young son in Brooklyn. But while Ash spends as much time as possible helping to take care of Edi, she also has her own chaotic life to worry about. Newman’s 2022 novel captures the beauty and burden of caring for someone in their final weeks of life and the gift of a once-in-a-lifetime friendship.
