Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan
In December of 1985, Bill Furlong is a coal and timber merchant living in Ireland. He is happily married and the father of five bright daughters. But the scars of his childhood linger, and his life is disrupted by a series of troubling visits to the local convent, which also functions as a “training school for girls” and a laundry business. Keegan’s short and gripping novel was shortlisted for the 2022 Booker Prize for Fiction and won the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.
